Customs detected trademark fraud in the import of sneakers

The General Directorate of Customs (DGA) found irregularities in the importation of merchandise entered under the "Courrier" regime at Ezeiza International Airport, which could only be brought into the country by trademark owners or those who had the appropriate trademark license, according to a statement released on Sunday (18.09.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX).

The agents carried out four raids from homes in the city of Chilecito, province of La Rioja. There, they seized textile merchandise and mainly footwear (around 1000 tons). 6.000 pairs) whose value amounts to $ 40 million coming from Bolivia, Paraguay and China.

It was reported that the procedures were carried out by specialized agents of the General Directorate of Customs-AFIP, jointly and in coordination with the Federal Police, following express instructions from the Federal Court of La Rioja, headed by Dr. Daniel Herrera Piedrabuena.

Following the operation, the merchandise will be transferred to the Customs seizure warehouse in La Rioja, at the disposal of the Federal Court.

The official note stated that "the actions are part of the strategic policy being carried out by Customs," led by Guillermo Michel, "in the fight against smuggling, which directly affects the defense of national industry and employment."

Added to this is “the fight against under-invoicing in exports and over-invoicing in imports,” the statement added.
