The customs authorities of the United States and Brazil signed this Friday (16.09.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX) a Mutual Recognition Agreement on Authorized Economic Operators, official sources reported.
According to the statement, the new instrument is based on previous agreements signed between the Customs and Border Protection Service (CBP) and the Government of Brazil. It is an operational agreement to ensure the coordination of the security of each nation's supply chain, as well as to combat customs and trade violations.
“With a broad mission that includes border security as well as facilitating legal trade and travel, U.S. Border Protection is aware of the importance of engaging our international stakeholders as we did today with our close partners in Brazil,” he said. Troy Miller, CBP Deputy Commissioner.
It should be noted that Brazilian Customs and the United States Border Protection Office signed a Customs Mutual Assistance Agreement, in 2002, as an initial step to enhance cooperation, trade and security in areas of shared responsibility.
En 2005 The parties launched the Container Security Initiative, which identifies high-risk containers, pre-screens and assesses containers before shipping, and uses technology to pre-screen high-risk containers quickly so as not to slow down trade movement.
En 2014, the United States Border Protection Office began working with Brazil on an Authorized Economic Operator supply chain security program and 2015 signed a joint work plan to strengthen the secure trade partnership.
Due to the results obtained in the different evaluation and comparison instances, both Customs have come to the conclusion that their National programs are compatible and have signed the Mutual Recognition Agreement, which complies with international recommendations and guidelines, incorporating new security standards in the supply chain.
