As of October 1, 2020, the customs administrations of Guatemala and Honduras will launch a definitive import procedure from the Peripheral Customs Office of the Customs Union priority for the Second State Party, allowing companies to reduce their costs and time in import procedures. In addition, it does away with physical documents and face-to-face procedures.
This new digital import system allows us to know which control channel will be assigned to the cargo, thus streamlining the logistics of all foreign trade operators involved in the clearance of imported goods.
Through a statement from the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA), the characteristics of the new digital import system, promoted by Guatemala and Honduras, were revealed, in order to make the entry and exit of goods from the country faster and more efficient. This will allow a reduction in the time of availability of the goods and total costs for the importer and will avoid the displacement of customs agents to the offices of the Second State Party.

In the Peripheral Customs of the Prioritised Customs Union
- The declarant transmits the goods declaration.
- Complies with the tax and non-tax obligations of the destination country.
- The customs service generates the corresponding selectivity.
- Once the verification has been completed, the departure of the means of transport to the other State Party of the Customs Union is authorized.
At the Trade Facilitation Center (within the Integrated Border Crossings)
- Submit the goods declaration.
- The customs service verifies through the electronic module that customs clearance has been completed at the Peripheral Customs Office of the prioritized Customs Union.
- The customs service authorizes the departure of the transport unit to the importing company.
The initiative facilitates the processing of information and allows its exchange with national and international entities, to expedite the clearance of goods entering the country of the Customs Union.
