Guatemala: Access to two integrated customs offices is disabled due to storm Iota

-

Storm Iota has caused an increase in river flows in the Northern Guatemala  and the passage has been closed at several points along the route to the Atlantic, according to the General Directorate of Road Protection and Safety.

As a result of the damage caused, access to the integrated customs offices of Corinto and El Florido is suspended, the Superintendency of Tax Administration (SAT) reported this afternoon (18.11.2020/XNUMX/XNUMX).

Therefore, Customs transits to and from the Corinto and El Florido Integrated Customs Offices must be processed or redirected, where appropriate, to the Agua Caliente Integrated Customs Office.

Customs authorities are taking the necessary measures to ensure the safety of trade in this emergency.

"We are taking all actions with the Customs Directors of the Central American region to guarantee trade and to protect our staff and other actors.", said Werner Ovalle, SAT director and regional vice president of the World Customs Organization.

United Nations agencies have warned of the consequences of Hurricane Iota, the second major tropical cyclone to hit Central America in less than two weeks. The Atlantic hurricane season, which has seen above-normal activity this year, will officially end on November 30.
