Government exempted foreign products from taxes at the Book Fair

-

The Government has decided to exempt from paying a series of taxes products from countries participating in the 45th edition of the Buenos Aires International Book Fair, which began on April 23 and will end on May 13.

The measure was communicated through the Decree 275 / 2019, which was published this Monday (22.4.2019) in the Official Gazette with the signature of President Mauricio Macri, Chief of Staff Marcos Peña and Ministers Dante Sica (Production) and Nicolás Dujovne (Finance). The text clarifies that the exemption is for a Maximum amount of USD 15.000 per participating country, taking FOB values as the calculation basis.

The Government justified the decision by considering that «The holding of the exhibition will increase technological, commercial and cultural exchange at an international level, making it of substantial importance to present to the visitor the world's publishing manifestations,
with the aim of strengthening ties, getting to know and getting closer to the cultures of the different participating countries in order to promote reading, while strengthening the positioning of the Fair in Latin America.

The text clarifies that the embassies of Brazil, Korea and Ukraine in our country are providing their institutional support by sponsoring the event.

The regulation specifies that a group of products are exempt from paying "import duties, value added tax, internal taxes, fees for port services, statistics and verification of destination."

The list of items covered by the measure includes: Printed books in any language and on any medium; complementary materials such as photographs, records, compact discs, diskettes, cassettes, videos; promotional material, catalogues, brochures and elements for building and decorating stands.
