Fecacera requests the Government to establish a single and competitive exchange rate for all sectors of the industry

La Federation of Foreign Trade Chambers of the Argentine Republic (Fecacera) asked the national government to special exchange rate recently announced, through Decree 194/23, was accessible to all exporters, not just some sectors.

In a statement released this Tuesday (11.03.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX), the organization of exporting companies from the different productive sectors -industrial and service- and of all regions of the country, explains that “Argentina must have a comprehensive long-term economic program that aims - among other variables - to achieve a single exchange rate, as stable as possible, that promotes confidence, attracts investments and the development of international markets.”

He goes on to add: “Exportation is an activity that is planned and consolidated over the long term, so having a fixed exchange rate for a short period of time, even if it is more competitive, does not provide the necessary conditions to access new export markets, which is an urgent need when it comes to solving the structural problems of our economy.”

According to the statement, Fecacera understands “the reason for the measures taken,” which are in line with the economic situation and the need to quickly increase the inflow of foreign currency into the country. It is aware of “the difficulties faced by many companies in obtaining imported inputs, as well as the Government’s concern about the outflow of foreign currency.”

For this reason, the entity maintains that "this measure could be extended to the import of certain products (prices inelastic to cost variations)."

“The latter would contribute to the financing of the State and also to boosting various economic sectors and containing inflation,” he says before reflecting that, in this way, “the volume of purchases from abroad would be regulated more automatically, avoiding the efforts and wear and tear that current restrictions and interventions imply.”
