El Salvador begins construction of the Integrated Customs Intelligence Center

The Government of El Salvador announced the start of construction of the Integrated Customs Intelligence Center (CIIA), a modern infrastructure designed to strengthen the control, transparency and efficiency of the national customs system, the General Directorate of Customs reported this Tuesday (21.10.2025).

Located in Ilopango, in the department of San SalvadorIn one of the most populated districts in the Central American country, the CIIA will concentrate national control of electronic and customs security, integrating surveillance systems, risk analysis, and operational management.

The launching ceremony was led by the Vice President of the Republic, Félix Ulloa Jr., along with the Minister of Finance, Jerson Posada, and the Director General of Customs, Benjamín Mayorga. Mr. Ulloa described the initiative as a key step toward institutional modernization:

"This project demonstrates the Government's commitment to technological innovation and transparency, ensuring safer and more efficient trade.", said the vice president.

Meanwhile, Minister Posada emphasized that the new infrastructure will streamline dispatch processes and strengthen public-private cooperation, benefiting the productive sector and foreign trade.

For this purpose, according to the official note, the CIIA will have cutting-edge technology, including substance and explosive detectors, X-ray image analysis systems, artificial intelligence for risk management, RFID technology, QR codes, national video surveillance, and drones to monitor operations in real time.

During the event, an agreement was also signed technological cooperation with private companies to equip and modernize the CIIA, in line with the modernization strategy of the General Directorate of Customs and as part of the vision of joint work between the central government and the private sector.

With the construction of the CIIA, El Salvador reaffirms its commitment to modern, digital customs management aligned with international trade facilitation standards, promoting security, efficiency, and transparency in all the country's customs offices, the official statement concludes.
