The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries temporarily suspended as of today (30.12.2020) the Registration of Foreign Sales Declarations (DJVE) for corn whose shipment start date is prior to March 1, 2021, when the new 2020/21 cereal campaign formally starts. Popcorn is an exception.
"This decision is based on the need to ensure the supply of grain for the sectors that use it as raw material in their transformation processes, basically the production of animal protein such as pork, chicken, eggs, milk and feedlot, where cereal represents a significant component of their production costs," said the minister. release.
To date, 34,23 million tons of corn have been authorized for export in the 2019/20 campaign, out of a theoretical exportable total of 38,50 million tons, meaning that 89 percent of the total has been fulfilled.
According to the ministry, the aim of the measure is to ensure that the remaining 4,27 million tonnes are available for domestic consumption, in order to ensure supply during the summer months when cereal supplies tend to be scarce.
"Eventually, and depending on how supply and demand evolve, as well as the prospects for the 2020/21 corn harvest, this portfolio will evaluate the reopening of the registry," the official statement concluded.
