The national government promulgated the Law 27.573 which declares the research, development, manufacturing and acquisition of vaccines intended to generate acquired immunity against the coronavirus to be of public interest, within the framework of the health emergency caused by this disease.
The law, published this Friday (06.11.2020) in the Official Gazette, empowers the national Executive Branch, through the Ministry of Health, to carry out the procedures for the acquisition of vaccines developed to combat the disease.
The law exempts vaccines and disposables imported by the Ministry of Health from the payment of import duties and any other tax, levy, contribution, fee or customs or port tariff, of any nature or origin, including value-added tax.
It also establishes that any vaccines that the provinces and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires may eventually acquire will receive "identical treatment."
This week, President Alberto Fernández announced that Argentina would be in a position to receive 10 million Sputnik V vaccines, developed by Russia against Covid-19, between December and January. Each vaccine is made up of two doses.
"We had a proposal from the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Russian sovereign wealth fund to see if Argentina was interested in having doses of the vaccine in December and of course we said yes," said Fernández and noted: "For us it is very important because it would allow us to vaccinate the sectors that are at risk, throughout the country."
In statements made yesterday, the Secretary of Access to Health, Carla Vizzotti, indicated that the vaccination campaign "will be of great magnitude and have very great particularities, just like the anti-flu campaign that was carried out after the H1N1 pandemic in 2010."
He also stated that "no vaccine against Covid-19 will be mandatory" and stressed the importance of the population understanding "the national State's strategy" on the issue.
On the other hand, the official indicated that the file for the Sputnik V vaccine, of Russian origin, "has already entered Anmat to analyze it and advance in the due processes," and stressed that, "in the decision to evaluate vaccines there is no geopolitics but rather the evaluation of safety and efficacy."
