The National Government formalized the interruption of meat exports for the next 30 days, through the Resolution 75 / 2021.
The regulations, published this Thursday (20.05.2021/XNUMX/XNUMX) detailed the suspension for one month of “the approval of applications for the Affidavit of Meat Export Operations (DJEC), in accordance with the terms of Joint Resolution No. 3 of April 19, 2021 of the Ministry of Productive Development and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, regarding the meat products of bovine origin".
The regulations make an exception for goods intended for consumption and exported within the tariff quotas granted by third countries to Argentina, "protected by certificates of authenticity and/or export."
The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries It was justified in Law No. 22.415 which allows certain limitations on exports "when their purpose is" -among other aspects- "to stabilize internal prices at convenient levels or maintain a volume of supply adequate to the supply needs of the internal market and affirm national sovereignty or defend the political institutions of the State."
The text stressed that "the current growth of the meat export market has led to a sustained rise in prices, due to the growing demand for these products, mainly from Asian markets."
“This situation has caused domestic prices to follow export prices of beef, in a context where the world price of food has increased significantly,” he said, while maintaining that “accepting” the fixing of international prices “for local foods that constitute basic products on the Argentine table” would imply “renouncing basic duties in terms of economic policy.”
In the recitals, it is stated that in Argentina “There is a price distortion "which exceed the general inflation rates for food and prevent the normal supply of domestic consumers"
And in this sense, the technical report of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries contextualizes the situation, "showing alarming rates of poverty and indigence». Due, "it is appropriate to suspend the issuance and approval of the DJEC."
The Government pointed out that This suspension may be considered to be concluded "once normal supply is verified, at reasonable prices and in accordance with the agreements reached" of the indicated products.
Finally, this Resolution enters into force immediately and "will be applicable to applications submitted from the date of entry into force," the official text clarified.
