The First Regional Congress of Good Customs Practices will be held in the city of Guayaquil (Ecuador) of the 8 al 10 de junio this year. The event will feature the participation of representatives from the customs of Colombia, Peru, Panama and other countries in the region. Authorities from the National Customs Service of Ecuador (SENAE) and the Export and Investment Promotion Corporation (CORPEI) announced the activities of the meeting.
According to reports, the event will be an opportunity to exchange experiences and generate synergies that will help to achieve a balance between trade facilitation and customs control, key elements for the competitiveness of countries.
To this end, the congress will feature the participation of Ricardo Trevino, Deputy Secretary of the World Customs Organization (WCO); Werner Ovalle, Regional Vice President for the Americas and the Caribbean of the WCO; Jorge Pedraza, Secretary General of the Andean Community (CAN).
It was also announced that the congress will feature two components: Congress and Networking Roundtable. The first component is the main axis of the event, in which renowned national and international speakers will present and address, in person and virtually, topics such as: Technology and automation of customs processes for the benefit of the user, Importance of Foreign Trade Traceability, Control in Parcel Mechanisms, "Authorized Economic Operator (AEO)" programs in the region, Recommendations for the mitigation of illicit trade, Smart Ports, among others.
Meanwhile, the Networking Roundtable will be held virtually through a meeting platform to generate strategic alliances, expand the network of contacts and develop potential business at a regional level.
In this regard, the organizers emphasized that the private sector will also play a fundamental role, which is why institutions such as the Association of Private Ports, Guayaquil Port Terminal, Manta Port Terminal, BASC Ecuador chapter, Naportec, Neymer, General Motors, are offering their support for the achievement of the Congress.
Additionally, it was specified that the regional congress will take place within the framework of the Pro Tempore Presidency (PPT) of Ecuador in the CAN and in the Customs Affairs Committee of the bloc.
The CAN - created in 1969 as the Andean Pact - is made up of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, and counts Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay as associate countries, as well as Spain and Morocco as observers.
Its objectives include accelerating growth and job creation, and facilitating the process of regional integration.
