Chile: 12 puppies rescued from being smuggled into border complex in Colchane

-

The National Customs Service reported an operation in which they rescued 12 Siberian puppies that were being smuggled into the border complex in Colchane (north).

El Regional Director of the Iquique Customs, Cristian Molina Silva, indicated that inside the Colchane complex a migrant was detected who entered Chile illegally and was carrying three small bags containing 12 Siberian Husky puppies.

When the inspectors consulted the origin of the species, the traveler indicated that he has a dog of that breed in Venezuela and took it to Ecuador, where he had 15 puppies and decided to bring 12 of them to Chile to be sold in Santiago.

Once the illegal entry of species for trade was detected, the customs officers seized the animals and provided them with food, water and care. At the same time, they informed the prosecutor on duty at the Public Prosecutor's Office in Pozo Almonte of the situation and, through a document, handed the puppies over to the Agricultural and Livestock Service for sanitary control and final disposal.

The international traveler was warned under Article 26 of the Criminal Procedure Code and established his domicile in the commune of San Bernardo. The Customs legal department will file a complaint for smuggling.
