Chile participated in the virtual meeting of the APEC 2021 Customs Procedures Subcommittee

-

The National Customs Service of Chile participated in the virtual sessions of the Subcommittee on Customs Procedures (SCCP) in which the 21 economies that make up the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), whose presidency is held by New Zealand, participated.

At the event, held in 19 to August 21, representing Customs, the Head (S) of the Department of International Affairs Andrea Ortiz Venegas, the International Affairs Advisor Rocío Valdez Corchs and the professional from the Valuation and Origin Unit of the Technical Sub-directorate, Mario Campos Villalón, participated.

The Subcommittee's work sessions focused on deepening various aspects of the Best Practice Guidelines for APEC Customs Administrations, which were approved by the Subcommittee in May this year, ahead of the 2021 APEC Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Trade, to facilitate the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, vital to safeguarding people's health and well-being.

In addition, during the meeting days other customs issues that the Subcommittee considers strategic were addressed, such as: digital trade, the gender perspective in customs, and the security and connectivity of supply chains.

As part of the panels, the National Customs Service contributed by sharing the measures adopted to facilitate the movement of critical supplies during the pandemic and the efforts made in terms of gender equality.

Customs also presented the results of the follow-up survey on the Update of the APEC Customs Transit Guidelines, which was carried out within the framework of a project initiated in 2018 and concluded in 2019 with the approval of the new version of the guidelines, thanks to the collaboration of the economies participating in the SCCP.

Finally, Chile also participated in the 13th APEC Alliance for Supply Chain Connectivity (A2C2) Meeting, an activity of the US-Support for Economic Growth in Asia (US-SEGA), in which public and private sector actors analyzed the impact of COVID-19 on international supply chains.
