Chile: Customs seizes truck with televisions, sneakers and clothing

Un Bolivian truck with a million-dollar contraband A cargo of household appliances, shoes and clothing was seized by inspectors from the National Customs Service at the border complex of Ollagüe (northern Chile). The vehicle left from the Free Trade Zone of Iquique and was intending to reach La Paz.

Indeed, the inspectors found a total of 216 bales of new clothing, 6.120 sneakers of different models and colors, 60 microwaves, 01 Samsung washing machine, 60 32-inch televisions and 82 43-inch Samsung televisions, in addition to 08 audio systems, model MX-T70.

El customs value of the goods was estimated at $86 million 100 thousand pthose (USD 103 thousand dollars), while the taxes that were attempted to be avoided exceed the $ 25 millones (USD 30 thousand dollars).

Romero Papasideris added that the merchandise was covered by a reshipment document whose consignee is a merchant on Buenos Aires Avenue, in the Bolivian city of La Paz. “The concealment and non-presentation of the goods constitutes the crime of smuggling and in this case everything was seized and the respective legal actions will be initiated with our team from the Legal Department," he concluded.
