Central America begins regional work on connectivity of railway projects

Central American countries are focused on reducing logistics times and costs, increasing competitiveness. To this end, the 04.03.2022 International Trade Fair was held this Friday (XNUMX). first meeting for boosting the connectivity of national railway transport projects in the region, reads the statement from the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA).

SIECA reported that the meeting was attended by the Ministries of Transport and the national railway companies that make up the Regional Railway Technical Group (formed by the Sectorial Council of Ministers of Transport of Central America), with the delegates of the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA), the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the team of consultants who will support the definition of the technical specifications and rules, aimed at achieving regional interconnection and interoperability.

After the meeting, the participants They approved the work plan for technical assistance that will last 10 months -as of today- and agreed to set up working groups at a national level to support the development of a diagnosis and analysis of the logistical positioning and potential interoperability connection of national railway projects in four of the six countries in the region.
 
In relation to that, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) supports through non-reimbursable technical cooperation to finance the construction of a “Harmonized General Technical Specifications Regulations for Railways in Central America”. According to SIECA, it is estimated that the definition and dissemination of the instrument will take place throughout 2022, while approval and entry into force will be at the end of the same year.
