The Brazilian government has decided to reduce by another 10% the import tax rates on 6.195 tariff items of the Common Nomenclature of Mercosur (NCM), the Ministry of Economy announced on Monday (23.05.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX).

The measure covers assets such as beans, meats, pasta, cookies, rice, construction materials, among others, of the bloc's Common External Tariff (TEC), in order to avoid a further rise in consumer prices. These items had already been reduced by 10% in November 2021, according to Gecex Resolution No. 269/2021.

In this way, adding the new measure to the previous one, more than 87% of the NCM tariff codes saw their rate reduced to 0% or reduced by a total of 20%.

The new reduction was approved at the first extraordinary meeting of the Executive Steering Committee (Gecex, by its acronym in Portuguese) of the Chamber of Foreign Trade (Camex) in 2022, with temporary and exceptional character, until the 31 of December of 2023The decision will contribute to the lowering of the cost of almost all imported goods, directly benefiting the population and companies that consume these inputs in their production process.

The Gecex Resolution, which regulates the measure, will be published in the Official Journal this tuesday . (Ministry of Economy statement)
