Argentina and Russia aim to increase trade and investments

-

Argentine and Russian officials participated in the XIV Argentine-Russian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic-Commercial and Scientific-Technical Cooperation, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in order to improve investments and the respective commercial exchanges between the nations.

During the meeting, the parties worked to "achieve an increase in economic and commercial relations and deepen the strategic link," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The working committees discussed trade and investment, energy, agriculture, fisheries and scientific and technological cooperation.

The Argentine government reported that exports to Russia increased by 46% over the past year.

In addition, agreements were signed on fishing, biotechnology, and regulation and control of medicines and medical products, which improved the flow of trade.

The investment by the Russian group Transmashholding (TMH), which enabled the Mechita railway workshops in the eastern Buenos Aires town of Bragado to be opened after remaining inactive for seven years, was also highlighted during the meetings.

On the occasion, Secretary Reyser highlighted the excellent level of relations between the two countries, which has reached the category of "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership," and which has been highlighted in the frequent meetings held between the two presidents. He also stated that the flow of bilateral trade and investments, although significant, is still below its potential, so the main challenge is to bring it to a historic record.

Progress was noted in veterinary and phytosanitary negotiations, mainly in bovine genetics, fresh citrus fruit and cherries.

In 2018, the strategic partnership that defines relations between Russia and Argentina marked 10 years.
