During the meeting, a broad agenda was worked on, where the next one was highlighted simultaneous opening of beef and sheep meat from Patagonia and Japanese beef. On that occasion, they agreed that both parties will move forward with the necessary process so that at the time of the G-20 Ministerial Meeting on Agriculture at the end of July in Buenos Aires, beef and sheep meat from Patagonia will already be physically available for purchase and sale in the Japanese market, and Japanese meat will already be physically available for purchase and sale in the Argentine market.
In addition, Minister Etchevehere pointed out the need to continue promptly opening the Japanese market to fresh meat from the rest of the country (foot-and-mouth disease-free zone with vaccination), which will have the valuable precedent of Patagonian meat for more agile management.
"There is political will for Argentina and Japan to strengthen their trade relationship," said the Minister, adding that "we believe there is a great deal of room to deepen and diversify our exchanges and we hope to be able to move forward quickly in market opening and trade promotion actions, for mutual benefit."

Minister Etchevehere opened the event in front of importing companies grouped in the Japan Meat Traders Association (JMTA).
Notably In 2017, Japan recorded imports of fresh or chilled boneless beef worth more than US$1.900 billion, and more than US$1.100 billion worth of frozen boneless beef., which accounts for the attractiveness of this market for Argentine exports.
