Authorities in Panama, the United States, Costa Rica and Colombia seized 6.626 packages of drugs, almost 60 percent of which was cocaine, and arrested 27 people during a joint operation carried out from April 1 to 30 in Pacific and Caribbean waters.
The Ministry of Public Security of Panama reported this Monday (14.5.2018) that during the call Combined Joint Operation Operational Task Force-4 Kraken II 3.928 packages of cocaine, 2.575 of marijuana and other illicit substances yet to be determined were seized.
"This operation was carried out from April 1 to 30, 2018 in 14 coastal areas of the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea in Panama, Costa Rica and Colombia, where several drug trafficking gangs that sent drugs to the northern triangle of Central America were dismantled."which comprise Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, said a official statement.
In the operation, the Panamanian Public Force seized 3.371 packages, the Costa Rican National Coast Guard Service 1.509 packages, the Colombian National Armed Forces 1.019 packages, and U.S. anti-narcotics agents 727 packages of narcotics, according to official Panamanian information.
He added that 27 suspected drug traffickers of different nationalities and six illegal migrants were arrested, without specifying their identity, and five speedboats, two vessels, a fishing boat and three vehicles were seized.
The Panamanian authorities recalled that in 2018, 84,6 tons of drugs were seized in the country, and that between January 1 and May 14 of this year, 18 tons of illicit substances were seized.
