Argentina reaffirmed its commitment to normalize debt before the G20

The Argentine government reaffirmed its commitment to normalizing the country's debt before the G20 governments and called for global solidarity in times of pandemic. 

When intervening in the Second Extraordinary Ministerial Meeting on Trade and Investment of the Group of 20, the Secretary of International Economic Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jorge Neme, ratified the words of President Alberto Fernández regarding the initiation of a global dialogue to overcome COVID-19, which will put an end to exclusion, environmental depredation, greed and uncontrolled speculation. 

Neme referred to Argentina's commitment to global food supply in the context of the pandemic and stressed the need to help small and medium-sized businesses, while emphasizing that the country is seeking to normalize the inherited external debt. 

In this regard, he highlighted the support of the International Monetary Fund to advance the restructuring, which considers that the debt, under current conditions, is not sustainable and advocated for receiving this same type of understanding with the creditors. 

“We are eager to normalize our economy and meet our commitments in a sustainable manner while protecting our social and productive fabric.”“o,” Neme told the members of the virtual meeting. 

Regarding the trade situation, the official stressed that Argentina works to ensure adequate trade flow as much as the current situation of global transport allows and the country continues to provide the world with its quality proteins, vegetables and animals

The Argentine representative also said that in the face of economic uncertainty, the Government is working to help micro, small and medium-sized businesses, and the most vulnerable sectors, including workers and the poor.
