Representatives of the public and private sectors of the logistics chain involving port and Free Trade Zone activity met to coordinate and optimize your management during the quarantine that will be implemented starting this Friday in the communes of Iquique and Alto Hospicio, communes located in the Tarapacá Region, northern Chile, reported the National Customs Service.
According to the statement, all parties agreed to join forces, increase coordination and provide all necessary facilities to maintain services.
The meeting was led by the Mayor of Tarapacá, Miguel Angel Quezada, together with the Regional Director of Customs, Cristian Molina, and the Regional Director of SAG, Alfredo Fröhlinch, who connected via video conference with the Maritime Governor of Iquique, Captain of the Ship Sigfrido Ramírez; the Captain of the Port of Iquique, Corvette Captain Felipe Torres; the General Manager of Zofri SA, Claudio Pommiez; the General Manager of ITI, Ricardo Córdova; the Operations Manager, Henry Balboa; the General Manager of EPI, Rubén Castro; the President of the Logistics Consortium, Héctor Mardones.
The meeting analyzed the pandemic scenarios and comparative experiences in terms of quarantine, specifically what happened in Arica and Antofagasta. Likewise, Operations involving the movement of loads were reviewed to and from the Free Trade Zone, as well as its exit to the rest of the country and other nations.
In this regard, Mayor Miguel Angel Quezada requested that the necessary actions be taken to further improve the existing coordination, in order to guarantee the efficiency of the logistics chain.
The Regional Director of Customs, Cristian Molina Silva, said that his institution provided coverage and reinforcement of all critical points, as well as the enabling of a contingency plan in case new service hours were required.The important thing is to continue strengthening coordination in favor of the fluidity of the processes., so that times are optimized for all those involved in these operations".
Likewise, it was established that all direct representatives of port and logistics activities, such as transporters, processors, ship agents, carriers and processors, among others, must be incorporated into this type of meetings and analysis, in order to generate feedback in real time and generate expeditious communication that enriches decision-making.
