Argentina begins activities as head of the MERCOSUR presidency

Argentina officially began the activities of the Pro Tempore Presidency (PPT) within the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) with the meeting of national coordinators of the Common Market Group (GMC).

On Meeting held on Tuesday (14.02.2023) In the city of Buenos Aires, representatives of the Argentine government discussed the priorities that the presidency will pursue in the regional bloc, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Paraguay.

In this regard, in the presentation of the points referred to the internal agenda, the economic and commercial aspects were highlighted, such as the continuation of the discussions on the revision of the MERCOSUR Origin Regime and the reflections on the Common External Tariff. Along the same lines, the external relations agenda.

In addition, other aspects included institutional issues, the energy integration, as well as the start of the work of the Ad Hoc Group on Trade and Sustainable Development.

The Argentine delegation was represented by Ambassador Cecilia Todesca, Undersecretary of MERCOSUR and International Economic Negotiations, acting as Pro Tempore President; the Brazilian delegation was represented by Ambassador Michel Arslanian, Secretary of Bilateral and Regional Negotiations of the Americas; the Paraguayan delegation was represented by Ambassador Raúl Cano Ricciardi, Vice Minister of Economic Relations and Integration; and the Uruguayan delegation was represented by Ambassador Enrique Delgado Genta, Director General for Integration Affairs and MERCOSUR.
