Pacific Alliance to hold presidential summit in Peru and involve more countries

-

The summit of presidents of the Pacific Alliance will be held next week in Lima, the Peruvian capital, announced this Thursday (24.11.2022) the Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard.

Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru approved, within the framework of the XVII Summit of the Pacific Alliance, that the meeting of the leaders will take place in the Peruvian capital so that President Andrés López Labrador can hand over the Pro Tempore Presidency to his Peruvian counterpart, Pedro Castillo.

"The date will be announced soon, probably next week," the foreign minister said in his opening address to the Council of Ministers meeting.

Peruvian Foreign Minister César Landa took the floor to thank the Mexican government for postponing the summit that was to have taken place on Friday.

President Castillo was not authorized by Congress to travel to Mexico to receive the Pro Tempore Presidency.

Ebrard also said that the most relevant thing was that six countries requested to join the Pacific Alliance bloc. These are: Costa Rica, Ecuador, Canada, South Korea, Singapore and Honduras.

“The alliance works, alliances that do not work do not have applications for membership, and today was almost to listen to the countries that want to be part of our alliance,” he said.

He said that Colombia, Chile, Mexico and Peru have agreed that these countries should be part of the alliance. “Today we welcome them.”

It is recalled that the Pacific Alliance was born on April 28, 2011 as an initiative that attracted attention because it was intended to be a long-term integration. To this end, the Member States are clear that it is important to work together to achieve the stated objective, which will greatly benefit the Latin American region.
