After three months of technical evaluation, the Superintendency of Tax Administration of Guatemala and the National Customs Service of Ecuador signed on January 7 a Mutual Recognition Agreement to promote the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) program, which will streamline trade operations between both countries.
The Mutual Recognition Agreement represents a reciprocal commitment to the offer of benefits from the Authorised Economic Operator related to the streamlining, facilitation of the clearance of goods and reduction of checks, according to information from the entity in charge of tax collection in Guatemala.
The bilateral instrument signed between the Customs of these countries with compatible Authorized Economic Operator programs allows to improve the competitiveness of qualified companies, guarantees security and fluidity in the logistics chain and promotes commercial exchange.
Thus, the customs services of Guatemala and Ecuador are making progress in facilitating trade and comprehensively promoting security conditions in the logistics chain, under a scheme of transparency and efficiency.
The Mutual Recognition Agreement was signed by the head of the Superintendency of Tax Administration of Guatemala, Marco Livio Díaz Reyes and the General Director of the National Customs Service of Ecuador, Carola Ríos Michaud, who were accompanied by the Superintendent of Customs of Guatemala, Werner Ovalle and the Minister of the Embassy of Ecuador in Guatemala, Pablo Avilés, reported the Guatemalan tax administration.
