Guatemala and Ecuador agreed on an action plan to achieve an Agreement of Mutual Recognition of OAS Programs

-

The Superintendent of Customs of Guatemala, Werner Ovalle, and the Director of the National Customs Service of Ecuador, Carola Ríos Michaud, signed this Friday (08.10.2021) an Action Plan to advance the Mutual Recognition Arrangement (ARM) of the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO), according to the statement of the Superintendency of Tax Administration (SAT-G)

The entity in charge of tax collection in Guatemala explained that this strategic commitment of customs is the first step for the technical evaluation to confirm that the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) programs nationals are compatible with each other, allowing the signing of the Mutual Recognition Arrangement between both countries.

The official text also stated that “With this Mutual Recognition Agreement on the AEO, certified companies will be provided with benefits related to the streamlining and facilitation of the clearance of goods to strengthen and make the logistics chain of international trade safe.”

It is worth mentioning that Customs have an important role to play in trade management. In this regard, the AEO was adopted by the World Customs Organization in 2005 under the Framework of Standards to Facilitate and Secure Trade (Safe Framework), in order to improve and strengthen security in the international supply chain, through compliance with security requirements that guarantee the reliability of companies participating in this program.
