Delegations from 27 countries will meet in Valparaiso during the 107th Annual AAPA Convention

-

A total of 27 countries will be represented at the 107th Annual Convention of the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) which, for the first time, is being held in South America, with Valparaíso as host.

Less than a month before the event, which will take place in Valparaiso Passenger Terminal (VTP), the place chosen for the development of the academic agenda, the organization has already received confirmation of
attendance of port executives from across the continent.
The workshops will have a notable presence of the United States, a country that will be present at the continental event with delegations from 35 ports.

Rafael Díaz-Balart, coordinator for Latin America of the AAPA, commented that “this year, for the first time, the AAPA Annual Convention will be held in South America. Outside the US and Canada, conventions have been held in Mexico and the Caribbean, but in 107 years never in South America. In addition to this fact, and with the aim of joining forces, it was decided to integrate the efforts related to the Latin American Port Congress with the Annual Convention in Valparaiso. This has generated great interest on the part of the international port community and also due to the fact that the Valparaiso Port Company moves a large volume of cargo in a very
“limited”.

“We are very pleased to announce that, to date, we have confirmed the participation of delegates from 27 countries, more than 200 companies and 75 international sponsors. We are certain that the great success of the participation in this Congress is also due to the fact that Valparaíso and Chile in general represent a very attractive tourist destination due to its beauty, its history, and the great hospitality of the Chilean people,” Díaz-Balart stressed.

Attractive program

“We will have a very attractive and comprehensive program that will address the main current and interesting topics of our industry, in addition to a series of other business and networking activities that reflect the care that has been put into organizing this Annual Convention, which we believe is being an attractive factor for hundreds of port industry leaders to be interested in attending AAPA Valparaíso 2018,” he said. Gonzalo Davagnino, general manager of the Valparaíso Port Company, which will host the most important port event of the last decade held in Chile.

“The idea is to have in Valparaíso the world's leading experts in the port industry, academics, representatives of organizations and companies linked to the activity, dealing with issues such as sustainability, logistics and technological innovation, added value in port infrastructure development strategies. As a port and as a city, we have prepared to receive more than 600 executives and representatives from dozens of ports around the world during these days, so we expect a very important attendance between October 7 and 10,” he added.
