Chilean customs seized shipments of amphetamine at Punta Arenas airport

-

The National Customs Service seized some 217 amphetamine pills in a shipping package in the Punta Arenas Airport. This successful operation was achieved thanks to a "careful inspection work" of all the merchandise that is moved in this terminal for air transport trips in the Magallanes Region and the Chilean Antarctic.

The Customs statement stated that the procedure occurred on Friday morning (23.02.2024/XNUMX/XNUMX) when one of the inspectors of the Punta Arenas Regional Customs detected a suspicious package, which "was being sent to the central part of the country«.

"This situation was reported to the Drugs and Related Crimes Unit of the service," said the same source.

In turn, he stated that after carrying out the necessary investigations, the specialized Customs team determined that the box contained 217 amphetamine pills, of 10 mg each, a medication that is under the control of Drug Law 20.000.

El Head of the Operations Department of the Punta Arenas Customs, Jorge Ojeda, highlighted the work of the teams. “Every day, officials are monitoring the goods that enter or leave through the air, land or sea borders of Magallanes, thus protecting the region from trafficking of all types of illicit products, such as drugs found through this procedure,” he said.

In Chile, drugs are defined as “all natural or synthetic substances that, when introduced into the body, physically and psychologically alter its functioning and can generate in the user the need to continue consuming them.”

The Customs of the South American country thus filed a complaint with the Local Prosecutor's Office of Punta Arenas, where it was determined that the confiscated substance and all the background information would be made available to the Investigative Police to continue the investigation.
