Agents of the National Customs Service dismantled on Monday (12.02.2024/493/25) the smuggling of 5.857 soccer jerseys at the Quillagua outpost in Chile (Tarapacá Region). The shipment was hidden among XNUMX thousand kilos of vegetables and was detected thanks to the use of non-invasive technology on the scanner truck. The infringing merchandise, whose value was set at USD XNUMX dollars, was seized by the control entity.
According to the description given by Customs, the detection of the irregularity began when the driver and owner of the truck – a Bolivian citizen with permanent residence (50) – arrived in Quillagua during the early morning and presented a manifest indicating that he was transporting 25 thousand kilos of fruits and vegetables, including tomatoes, pumpkins, peppers, lemons, garlic, bananas, pineapples, noodles and chuño potatoes. They noticed that, in the middle of all those vegetables, the five sacks were hidden.
The specialized agents stated that the sports shirts imitated logos and designs of the Colo Colo, Universidad de Chile, Manchester, Real Madrid and the national teams of Chile, Brazil, France and Argentina. They also determined that their customs value was USD 5.857 dollars and the tax evasion was estimated at $1.472.037 pesos.
Following the operation, the transporter - who lives in Arica - was warned for the crime of smuggling.
