Argentina is admitted among the six new members of the BRICS

-

Argentina has been invited, along with Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Ethiopia, to become new full members of the BRICS, President Alberto Fernández confirmed on Thursday (24.08.2023).

The president sent a message from Quinta de Olivos in which he announced the approval of the country's entry into the bloc of regional economies: "Being part of the BRICS means being part of a bloc that currently It represents 24% of global GDP, 16% of exports and 15% of global imports of goods and services".

He also highlighted that "a new scenario is opening up for Argentina" and assured that seeking the
Integration with different regional and global bodies “is a State policy, because it has been proven that in this way we increase our possibilities of opening new markets, of consolidating existing ones, of promoting investment flows by creating jobs, of increasing exports and of developing the application of new and better technologies.”

Fernández then said that “during the course of 2022 we will begin the process for Argentina's entry into the BRICS”, and stressed that having managed to form that bloc is for the country “a new opportunity that strengthens us, although it does not exclude other instances of integration, and even less so Argentina's proud membership in the United Nations multilateral system”.

He added: "Argentina was, is and will be an integrationist country."

Argentina's official incorporation into the BRICS will be from January 1, 2024; it is a market that represents the 30 percent of the destination of our exports, according to the same official source. (Message)
