Master Werner Ovalle Ramírez assumed this Monday (14.04.2025/XNUMX/XNUMX) as the new head of the Superintendency of Tax Administration (SAT) of Guatemala, for the period 2025-2030. He replaces Marco Livio Díaz Reyes in the position, having successfully completed the official selection process.
The swearing-in ceremony was led by Jonathan Menkos, President of the SAT Board of Directors, who highlighted his "technical capacity, professionalism, and leadership to continue the institution's strategic objectives," according to the official communication.
Ovalle was Deputy Minister of Anti-Narcotics and previously Customs Superintendent, positions from which he accumulated experience in public management and fiscal control in the Central American country.
During his speech, he stated that The SAT "is not just a collecting entity, but a key player in national development"”, with impact in areas such as education, health, infrastructure and social justice.
Among the axes of his management, he announced a strong taxpayer orientation, the impulse to voluntary compliance within the framework of transparency and institutional closeness.
It also ratified the frontal fight against smuggling, customs fraud and tax crimes, and noted that the SAT will play a strategic role against transnational crimes such as arms and drug trafficking.
Ovalle anticipated the use of artificial intelligence to optimize risk management and highlighted the need to coordinate actions with the Ministry of Public Finance, the productive sector, and international partners.
