With the arrival of the long holiday of Easter, the agencies in charge of controls at border complexes foresee a significant increase in the flow of travelers, especially between Chile and Argentina. In this sense, prevention is key.
In this regard, the National Customs Service makes a valuable recommendation: Use of the Digital Affidavit (DJD) implemented together with the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG). This is a document that is required for all persons over 18 years of age who enter the country from abroad and which can be completed through the website www.ingresoachile.cl 48 hours in advance. The form can also be accessed by scanning the QR codes provided at the different border crossings where this system is available.
In the DJD, the products carried by travelers entering Chile are declared. In the case of Customs, it corresponds to merchandise and cash or transferable documents (such as checks) that exceed the traveler's allowance and are therefore subject to the payment of taxes (see https://www.aduana.cl/aduana/site/edic/base/port/viajero_turista.html). On the part of the SAG, it corresponds to material of animal or plant origin that could contain pests and diseases not present in the country.
Once you have completed the Digital Affidavit, you can download it in PDF format, retrieve it from your email or display it directly from your phone or mobile device, to be presented to Customs and SAG inspectors without having to print it on paper. The form can be accessed with or without a unique password and is developed in Spanish, English and Portuguese.
The head of the National Customs Service Operations Department, Cristian Merino, stresses the importance of completing the paperwork in advance: “It is very important that travelers are informed in advance of the exemptions they are entitled to when returning to the country and of all the procedures associated with this type of travel, because in this way they will have a better experience and will speed up their entry into the country when they have to carry out the controls with Customs.”
The DJD is implemented at the following land border crossings in the country:: Chacalluta, Chungará, Los Libertadores, Pehuenche, Pino Hachado, Mamuil Malal, Hua Hum, Cardenal Samoré, Jainimeni, Huemules, Integración Austral (Monte Aymond), San Sebastián, Río Don Guillemo and Dorotea.
