-

Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie met on Thursday (30.11.2017) with his Uruguayan counterpart, Nin Novoa, in the city of Salto, with whom he agreed to invest US$ 6 million in the Integrated Control Area of Fray Bentos and US$ 4 million in Paysandú, which triples the current operational capacity.

"Today we can say that We have made progress in the system of reciprocal recognition and we are making the free transit proposal from the last meeting a reality. Thus, in 2019, some US$ 6 million will be invested in the Integrated Control Area of Fray Bentos and another US$ 4 million in Paysandú," said the Uruguayan minister.

In this way, it will almost triple the operational capacity of these border crossings, with modern facilities and large areas for social use, which do not exist today. "We have submitted to the Argentine delegation a proposal for an agreement for the crossing of ambulances over the bridges and we are going to move forward with a comprehensive approach in situations of social emergency," said Nin Novoa.

"We're heading to the Productive complementarity and value chains, but with the smallest economies in mind: cooperatives and SMEs. To this end, we will design a space for articulation and work that will accommodate the ventures that are carried out on both shores and that often do not have competitive capacities due to their size. We will advance in the consolidation of political spaces for integration," concluded the Uruguayan foreign minister.

For its part, Jorge Faurie He pointed out that “Argentines and Uruguayans are entering the world through agricultural efficiency. We have to consider how to make this production, which is what is making us viable as a nation, more competitive and more efficient.”

According to the Argentine Foreign Ministry, the meeting took place during the relaunching of this binational commission created in 1987 and which had not met since 2004.
