A virtual business roundtable on agri-food in Latin America and the Caribbean, organized by the SICA Region, generated business intentions for around 53 million dollars, the organizers reported this Thursday (08.04.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX).

La Fifth edition of the virtual business roundtablecios of the agri-food chains in Latin America and the Caribbean, carried out virtually between the  March 28th and April 01st, had the participation of 685 small and medium-sized companies in the sector, detailed the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA).

The virtual business roundtable promoted the marketing of the following products and services in the agri-food sector: primary products and their derivatives, processed foods, natural cotton fibers, production support services, and marketing services. Among the subsectors with the largest number of companies were fruits, vegetables, coffee, cocoa, basic grains, seeds, food preparations, healthy snacks, packaging, and distribution, transportation, and logistics services.

The event aimed to promote business networks of agri-food SMEs during the pandemic and was attended by companies from Central American countries: Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and the Dominican Republic, and also buying and selling companies of: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Dominica, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Saint Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela, and purchasing companies participated China and United States.

The business roundtable recorded business intentions for a total of USD 53 million, it was held through the Central American Trade Network (REDCA) platform and was organized by the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA), IICA, the Executive Secretariat of the Central American Agricultural Council (SECAC) and FAO.

On this regard, the Director of the Center for Economic Integration Studies (CEIE), Desiree García, explained in a statement: “The virtual business roundtable that SIECA organized jointly with IICA, FAO and SECAC allowed companies from Latin America and the Caribbean to meet with potential strategic partners, clients or suppliers through virtual meetings held through REDCA, which is the commercial intelligence platform that the institution makes available to the private sector for the generation of business networks that encourage commercial exchange.”

El Trade and Competitiveness Specialist From SECAC, Oswaldo Segura, highlighted the importance of these initiatives for generating business in the current very complex global context of war, pandemic, logistics crisis, food security risks, climate change and rising prices of inputs and cereals. “…business meetings have proven to be a very useful and accessible tool for generating business for farmers in the region.”

These virtual business meetings are a meeting point that allows companies to establish business contacts with potential strategic partners, clients or suppliers through meetings scheduled by participants from anywhere in the world.- (SIECA Press Release)
