Baggage regime: current regulations remain in force until the "omnibus" law is approved

-

The Argentine Customs clarified this Thursday (28.12.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX) that the baggage regime remains in force with the current regulations until the "omnibus" law called "Bases and Starting Points for the Freedom of the Argentines«.

To this end, the administration reminded travelers of the following considerations regarding baggage regime, which constitutes a special regime of the Customs Code (CA).

Maximum amounts allowed

*The land or river franchise is USD 300.

* The franchise for sea or air freight is USD 500.

* The extra USD 500 deductible for purchases at the duty-free shop does not apply when arriving by land or river, except in Puerto Iguazú.

What can be brought into the country without declaring it?

Argentines are allowed to return to the country with one cell phone and one notebook or tablet per person purchased abroad, without paying customs duties, since they are now considered personal items.

With respect to Clothing, books, prescription drugs and similar items, Customs does not impose any duty on them if it considers that they will not be used for commercial purposes.

The amounts to be paid

If you have purchased abroad for a value greater than that allowed to be brought in without paying taxes, you must:

*Declare the assets in the digital form.

*Pay a sum of money equal to half the value that exceeds the maximum value.

Violations related to excess of the franchise will have to pay 50% of the amount exceeded from the franchise, always over the permitted amount. On the other hand, those who commit violations in the baggage regime may be subject to economic sanctions by virtue of being considered an infringement of this regime found in Law 22.415 (articles 977 and 978 of the CA).

In the case of prohibited merchandise, it will be seized immediately. To avoid setbacks, it is necessary to know what the Customs regime is for products entering the country (Visit AFIP link).

It should also be remembered that if you do not declare goods purchased abroad for a value greater than that which can be imported without paying taxes, the customs service will draw up a report, seize those goods and file a complaint.
