Panama is preparing for the electronic transmission of sanitary and phytosanitary certificates scheduled for next March 30, in accordance with Resolution 485/2023 (COMIECO-CV); for this, SIECA carried out this Tuesday (20.02.2024) a virtual training for the purposes of empowering the general public your knowledge about the Central American Digital Trade Platform (PDCC).
The activity was inaugurated by Norman Harris, Advisor to the SIECA Office who gave the welcoming remarks and the training session was led by the PDCC Coordination, whose representatives spoke about the process flow for the electronic transmission of sanitary and phytosanitary export certificates and the PDCC as a tool for electronic transmission.
According to SIECA, the importance of electronic transmission The strength of sanitary and phytosanitary certificates lies in their efficiency and convenience. “By using electronic means to transmit these certificates, companies and authorities can streamline processes, reduce the amount of paperwork and ensure a faster exchange of crucial information related to the safety and quality of agricultural and food products.”
In Central America, trade facilitation is a means to further strengthen regional integration and trade; in this sense, the process involves the actions of customs services, as well as agencies linked to foreign trade and the capacity of companies.
These operations are based on a technological model: the Central American Digital Trade Platform (PDCC), considered “a catalogue of services or processes related to intra- and extra-regional trade operations, for the facilitation of Central American Trade.” The project is financed by the European Union (EU), the funds are administered by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the PDCC is executed by SIECA.
