WTO: The Regional Online Trade Policy Course for Latin American Countries has begun

-

The World Trade Organization (WTO) launched the first online Regional Trade Policy Course for Latin American countries, which will take place from August 9 to November 12.

The WTO training, organized jointly with El Colegio de México, aims to enable mutual understanding among the twenty-three participants (Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic and Uruguay, among others). At the same time, it will facilitate a better understanding of the multilateral trading system and the work of the WTO.

The course was inaugurated by the Head of the Training Section of the WTO Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation, Jorge Castro, and the Secretary General of El Colegio de México, Gustavo Vega.

Authorities stated that “The course is of crucial importance to promote the growth and development of nations and, in particular, to resolve the economic crises that we have experienced since the second half of the last century.".

The WTO release notes that during the course, new interactive sessions will be organized with various partners, including the International Trade Centre, the Standards and Trade Development Service and the WTO Legal Advisory Centre. It also reports that during these “lobby sessions,” participants will learn about the work carried out by other multilateral and regional organizations related to trade in Latin American countries. And it will conclude with a round table, open to the public, on a trade-related topic relevant to Latin America.

The course offers intermediate-level training (known as “Level 2” in the WTO’s Progressive Learning Strategy) and is designed for government officials. It will provide a combination of self-study, interactive case studies and exercises, as well as live face-to-face webinars by WTO experts, academics and trade policy practitioners from Latin America.
