The World Customs Organization (WCO) released this Tuesday (23.05.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX) the report on the five symposia "Visualizing a greener SA", which were carried out with the financial support of the European Union, from October 2022 to January 2023.
The event aimed to bring a more global focus to the discussions and offer new perspectives to assist WCO members and trade stakeholders. To this end, the talks focused on the changes needed to make the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System, commonly referred to as the Harmonized System, or simply “HS”, even greener in its next editions.
The WCO said that at these symposia “it was recognised that given the importance of the issues highlighted, a concentrated approach is required on finding out what can be done to adapt the HS to environmental policy in order to make trade measures effective and efficient”.
“Translating discussions into HS provisions will require Members, IGOs and the WCO to work together to translate these ideas into viable proposals for changes to the HS,” he added.
The document is also “a call to action to ensure that these discussions translate into tangible results,” the International Organization said.
In short, the action is another step by the WCO towards a SA in favour of environmentally sustainable trade.
