The Secretary-General of the World Customs Organization (WCO), Kunio Mikuriya, expressed on Wednesday (09.03.2022) that he is deeply saddened by the continued suffering and loss of life in Ukraine, and called for a peaceful and prompt solution.
In a statement issued today, Mikuriya said: “We have been monitoring the crisis very closely in coordination with the President of the WCO Council, including the ongoing dialogue and deliberations taking place within the United Nations.”
“In doing so, we are paying particular attention to the implications that the crisis is having on Customs, as border operations have been severely affected,” he added.

“We pay tribute every day to all Customs officials who have been working tirelessly and bravely throughout the crisis,” he added.
As he has done in the past, Mikuriya said: “As an organization built on international cooperation, unity and diplomacy, we sincerely hope that a peaceful solution will be found as soon as possible.”
