WCO strengthens cooperation with Caribbean customs

Authorities from the World Customs Organization (WCO) and the Caribbean Customs Law Enforcement Council (CCLEC) held a virtual meeting this Thursday (23.09.2021) to Strengthening cooperation and joint work between the administrations of small island economies.

The meeting was chaired by Ricardo Treviño Chapa, Deputy Secretary General of the WCO and Werner Ovalle, Regional Vice President of the WCO for the Americas and the Caribbean, with the support of Albert Sandy, Permanent Secretary of CCLEC. Customs administrations from Spain were also present. Antigua and Bermuda, Belize, Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Saint Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago.

Within the framework of the Small Island Economies Initiative, the authorities discussed areas of joint work, especially in terms of customs needs related to capacity building, communication and coordination, as well as activities that can be carried out jointly to support the region.

The initiative expresses the importance of mutual cooperation and the exchange of information between customs at the regional level.
