WCO helps Argentine Customs implement Trade Facilitation Agreement

The World Customs Organization (WCO) met with the General Directorate of Customs of Argentina (DGA) within the framework of an exploratory mission last Wednesday (6.12.2018) to effectively implement trade facilitation measures.

The experts responsible for the Diagnostic Mission of the WCO Mercator Program, Rosaldo Trevisan (Brazil) and Patria Matos (Dominican Republic), were received by the Director General of Customs, Lic. Diego Dávila, in Buenos Aires, says the official statement.

During the meeting, the experts and the Director exchanged views on the status of Customs regarding the implementation of the Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA). of the World Trade Organization (WTO), as well as the relationship of the DGA with other State agencies and the private sector.

The objective of this Mission was to understand and consolidate the measures to be taken for an effective and efficient implementation of the AFC., preparing as a conclusion a Final Report accompanied by recommendations and an Action Plan that was presented on Friday (7.12.2018), at the close of the Mission, the text states.

About AFC

The Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) contains provisions to expedite the movement, transport and customs clearance of goods, including goods in transit. It also sets out measures for effective cooperation between customs and other competent authorities on issues relating to trade facilitation and compliance with customs procedures. It contains provisions for the provision of technical assistance and capacity-building support in this area. The Agreement helps to improve transparency, increases the possibilities of participating in global value chains and reduces the possibilities of corruption.

The TFA was the first agreement concluded at the WTO by all its Members. Argentina ratified it on 22 January 2018.
