The First Round of Trade Negotiations between MERCOSUR and Singapore took place in the city of Buenos Aires from April 22 to 26, 2019.
Market Access for Goods, Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures, Customs Cooperation and Trade Facilitation, Trade in Services, Investments, as well as a chapter on the interaction between micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) were the issues addressed to bring closer and deepen the trade relationship.
This is the first trade negotiation between MERCOSUR and a member country of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The agreement seeks to ensure balanced and effective access to the market for goods, services, investments and government purchases by both parties.

Argentina and MERCOSUR also hope that this agreement with one of the main logistics hubs in Asia become a gateway for our exports to Southeast Asia. Singapore is also a major global investor, so a trade agreement can help attract capital from that source to the economies of our bloc.
Food destination
The Asian power is an interesting market for Argentina because of what it represents in terms of GDP per capita, the sophistication of its market and its status as a net importer of food.In this regard, during 2018, exports of products such as black hake, frozen poultry meat, whey and lemons, among others, were recorded. For its part, ASEAN as a whole has stood out in recent years as one of the main destinations for our exports.
