Mercosur negotiators met this Sunday (10.12.2017) in Buenos Aires with the Vice Minister of Commerce of the Republic of Korea, Kim Youngsam, to outline negotiations that will allow for a “rapid advance” of a trade agreement between the bloc and the Asian nation, the Foreign Ministry reported.
Diplomats Horacio Reyser (Argentina), Ronaldo Costa (Brazil), Luis Ávalos Gimenez (Paraguay), and Valeria Czukasi (Uruguay) took part in the meeting, where they discussed with Kim “the importance of starting negotiations quickly.”
The primary objective is to move forward on an agreement to sign a free trade agreement "once the respective internal procedures have been completed.".
The Argentine Foreign Ministry's statement said that "both parties shared the common will and understanding that the trade agreement must be consistent with the rules of the World Trade Organization."
He also adds that it should be “commercially significant, broad and balanced, covering trade in goods, trade in services, investments, economic cooperation and other areas of mutual interest.”
Finally, he points out that this possible agreement "will also contribute to the further development of political, social and cultural relations, as well as cooperation" between the signatory nations.
