Peruvian Customs Superintendent Marilú Llerena Aybar met on Friday (08.07.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX) with the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO), Kunio Mikuriya, to coordinate the work agenda, days after assuming the Regional Vice Presidency of the WCO for the Americas and the Caribbean.
Official sources reported that the Vice President presented her Work plan for 2022-2024 ’s relationship with the motto “Working together for a digital, competitive, integrated and inclusive region” and three axes of action: institutional strengthening, intra and interregional cooperation and digital transformation.
During the presentation, Marilú Llerena explained that the addition “inclusive” refers to promoting the role of Customs in contributing to the post-pandemic economic recovery, the facilitation of legitimate trade through digital services and global security. It is also related to the objective of advancing gender equality and diversity in customs and in society.
He expressed his commitment to work on the development of a regional network of customs laboratories, the accreditation of regional experts and the development of training for Authorized Economic Operator validators as part of the implementation of the recent Regional Mutual Agreement.
This will be accompanied by capacity building for the community and the inclusion of new actors in foreign trade (micro and small businesses, women, rural and border populations, among others); as well as the promotion of formalization, entrepreneurship and comprehensive development.
Other definitions were linked to the exchange of best customs practices, the promotion of joint work between regional entities recognized by the WCO, the promotion of digital transformation and the strengthening of the role of Customs in the international supply chain.
The new Regional Vice President and the highest authority of the WCO discussed the implementation of the plan to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the customs administrations of the member countries, located in South America, North America, Central America and the Caribbean.
