The European Commission (EC) confirmed on Friday (13.7-2018) that the European Trade Commissioner, Cecilia Malmström, will meet next Tuesday with her counterparts from the Mercosur countries to discuss the latest progress in the negotiations for their trade agreement.

"Commissioner Malmström will meet on next Tuesday, on the margins of the meeting between the European Union (EU) and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC)", sources from the European Commission confirmed to Efe.

The same sources indicated that in the round of technical negotiations held this week between the EU and Mercosur "Very limited progress" was made on the most thorny issues of the agreement: cars, car parts, geographical indications, maritime transport and dairy products."
"All these issues are central to being able to make the leap to the political level of negotiations," said the sources, who noted that meetings at a technical level will continue next Monday (16.7.2018).
