A few days before the launch of our service Customs News in Portuguese, we have selected the notes of Brazilian authors most valued by our audience. This list presents the renowned teacher and Doctor of Law Rosaldo Trevisan, whose work entitled “The Awakening of Customs Law in Brazil” offers a deep perspective on Brazilian customs law in times of protectionism. In his article, he addresses key issues such as the internationalization of customs law, trade facilitation and the current perspectives of this discipline.
The selection also includes the captivating opinion piece of the Dr. Raquel Segalla Reis, entitled “Big Data and Artificial Intelligence in Customs Control: Convergence between Strategy, Law and Ethics.” This article provides valuable insight into how Brazilian Customs has been implementing algorithms and artificial intelligence in its control activities for over ten years. It focuses on the Customs Selection System by Machine Learning (SISAM), which has positioned Brazilian Customs as a model of technological modernization. The author seeks to share the value of the exchange of knowledge and experiences with the Argentine Republic.
Of course, an opinion note on policies and practices that promote sustainability in international trade is also included, written in collaboration by the MBA Marcelo de Castro (Brazil) and Dr. Joe Henry Thompson Arguello (Nicaragua). Entitled “Green Customs: More than a fad, an irreversible commitment to sustainability in international trade”, this text aims to demystify the concept of Green Customs and delve deeper into the essential role of customs, the private sector and the international organizations involved. In addition, it presents a critique of the growing tendency to consider this term as “a passing fad”, without a true commitment to sustainability and the actions necessary to transform theory into practice.
Below you will find selected notes that will allow you to better understand what you have read, discover new meanings and delve deeper into the richness of the written word of the past year.
