Guatemala and U.S. Customs work in coordination to facilitate safe trade

The customs authorities of Guatemala and the United States held this Wednesday (17.08.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX) in the capital of the Central American country, a work meeting within the framework of the recent signing of the Customs Agreement on Mutual Assistance, official sources reported.

“The visit took place in Follow-up to the cooperation and coordination of both Customs Administrations have been developing for the benefit of trade facilitation, strengthening of controls and the reinforcement of safe trade; in accordance with the previously signed instruments," said the Superintendency of Tax Administration of Guatemala (SAT-G) in a statement.

In addition, it was specified that at the meeting “Advances were identified”, the result of joint projects and new lines of cooperation in capacity building, information exchange, transfer of best practices and other actions “to facilitate the safe flow of trade between both countries.”

During the meeting, the Superintendent of SAT-G, Marco Livio Díaz Reyes, and the Superintendent of Customs, Werner Ovalle Ramírez, participated and received the delegation from the Office of Customs and Border Protection of the United States of America (CBP), led by the Under Secretary for Migration and Border Policies, Blas Nuñez-Neto; accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner of CBP, Troy Miller and the Associate Chief of Foreign Operations of the Border Patrol, José Gardea.

Likewise, the SAT confirmed that with these actions the tax entity reaffirms its commitment to continue modernizing the Customs Service in compliance with the strategic objectives of the Institutional Strategic Plan 2021-2025; and in line with the provisions of the World Customs Organization SAFE Regulatory Framework, in Pillar I Referring to the fact that customs administrations must work in cooperation and use common and accepted standards to maximize the security and facilitation of the international trade logistics chain.SAT-G Press Release)
