The World Trade Organization (WTO) now has a new deputy director. The WTO has appointed this Wednesday (18.10.2023) Johanna Hill to replace Anabel González of Costa Rica, who held the position for two years and left the international organization last August.
Director-General Okonjo-Iweala welcomed Hill to the WTO, saying: “As a member of the senior management team, she will play a key role alongside me and the other Deputy Directors-General in advancing our goal of helping our members use trade as a means to raise living standards, create jobs and improve people’s lives.”
To this end, this incorporation joins the luxury elite made up of: Angela Ellard (United States), Jean-Marie Paugam (France) and Xiangchen Zhang (China).
The new deputy director-general of the WTO, Born in El Salvador (Central America), holds a master's degree in International Economic Policy from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University, New York, and a bachelor's degree from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. His native language is Spanish and he is fluent in English and proficient in French.
Hill serves as Managing Partner and Founder of CA Trade Consulting Group's San Salvador Office. Her previous roles have included Deputy Minister of Economy of El Salvador, Executive Director of the Chamber of Telecommunications of El Salvador, and member of the Board of Directors of Banco Azul.
