WCO recognizes Peru as the site of the new Regional Customs Laboratory

-

The Regional Vice Presidency of the World Customs Organization announced, through the social network Twitter, that the National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration (SUNAT) of Peru was recognized as the headquarters of the Regional Customs Laboratory in South America. In this way, it joins those already existing with this distinction in Russia, Japan, South Korea and Mexico.

SUNAT had carried out the procedures before the WCO so that its new facilities are considered a “Regional Customs Laboratory”, which consolidates its position as one of the leading customs administrations in the region.

Thus, the Peruvian technical body attached to the Ministry of Economy and Finance has an area of 3.055 m2 in the port city of Callao, where the Technical Testing and Analysis Laboratory is located for the certification of products entering or leaving the country, their correct classification and declaration before the customs administration and the assignment of the tariff treatment with the consequent payment of the corresponding taxes.

The headquarters was designed following the international standards approved by the World Customs Organization (WCO) for this matter. In this regard, today (10.12.2020) a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Secretary General of the WCO, Kunio Mikuriya and the Superintendent of Customs of Peru, Marilú Llerena Aybar.
