-

During this month, Customs detected that in Terminal 4 of the Port of Buenos Aires A temporary congestion of operations was being generated and, in response, action was taken in a special procedure that included the presence of the Deputy Director General of Metropolitan Customs Operations, Rosana Lodovico.

The management was possible thanks to the intervention of the Customs Health Assistance Board, which quickly assisted the importing firm Ortopedia Bernat SRL in the verification and release of three containers with wheelchairs, orthopedic walkers, bathroom systems with toilets and more than a thousand parts. There are generic models and others assembled specifically to the specific needs of each patient.

During the procedure, Lodovico stressed that "The General Directorate of Customs is there to provide solutions to the population: not to bureaucratize the procedures, but to deliver the supplies that the population really needs."

For his part, Fernando Bernat, president of Bernat Orthopedics, highlighted: "We are grateful to Customs for providing us with assistance and agility in the release of the products we import: postural wheelchairs, for spinal cord injuries, fora cerebral palsy. These are elements that are in great need of their patients, so we are very grateful for this assistance.”

The total merchandise involved represents a load of 7.896 kg of medical items., which include the following detail:

  • Orthopedic wheelchairs: 32 units
  • Orthopedic walkers: 5 units
  • Bathroom systems with toilets: 50 units
  • Orthopedic chair parts: 1201 units
  • Bathroom system parts: 165 units

It is worth noting that the diligence of customs actions has greatly reduced the waiting time for the items in question to reach each patient, which is essential for improving their quality of life.

On the Customs Health Assistance Table

El On July 8, Customs created the Customs Health Assistance table with the purpose of receiving, guiding and responding to citizens who need to import equipment and supplies related to health, such as medicines, wheelchairs, among others.

This special Customs unit is dedicated to providing personalized assistance, advising both on the requirements necessary for importation and during the customs clearance process, so that supplies aimed at a population group with such special needs reach their destination as quickly as possible. Precisely, given the health situations they are going through, time becomes an essential and delicate issue.

Since August 1, the date on which the Customs Health Assistance table was launched, Customs has already intervened on 59 occasions, which include cases of medicinal specialty, compassionate use food, medical products and others.
