Argentina and Brazil agreed at ALADI on provisions relating to the mutual recognition of vehicle homologations

Argentina and Brazil signed, this Thursday (22.09.2022) at the ALADI headquarters, the Forty-Fifth Additional Protocol to the Economic Complementation Agreement No. 14, regarding the “Mutual Recognition Agreement for Vehicle Homologations between the Argentine Republic and the Federative Republic of Brazil”.

The international organization announced that "through this Protocol each country undertakes to recognize the vehicle approvals issued by the other, for vehicles produced or assembled in plants located in its territory." It explained that approval is the procedure to evaluate the conformity of vehicles with the current vehicle identification and safety standards of each country.

According to the press release, the signed Protocol will enter into force 120 days after the date on which the ALADI General Secretariat communicates that it has received notification from both countries that the formalities necessary for its application have been fulfilled.

During the signing ceremony, representatives from both countries, as well as the Secretary General of ALADI, highlighted the importance of the new Protocol for deepening productive integration, promoting investments and increasing trade in the automotive sector in the region.

Argentina and Brazil are thus taking a further step towards better ties between their markets.
